I am a mother of two from Gaza. I used to live outside Gaza with my family (my husband and son). I returned to visit my family in Gaza in 2023 while pregnant with my second child. Then the war broke out, the Rafah crossing closed, and the cost of security coordination to leave Gaza skyrocketed. I couldn't afford to return to my life
I gave birth to my second child in Gaza alone, and he hasn't seen his father since birth. My son has grown up and is now walking and speaking fluently, and he understands the world around him. He still hasn't seen his father and doesn't understand that it's normal to live under one roof with a mother and father in peace. He doesn't know what family means.
My eldest son also returned to Gaza at the age of two. He grew up knowing nothing but lines for water and food, the sounds of shelling and airstrikes, and displacement. He suffers from the absence of his father during a crucial period of his development. Due to the intense shelling we endured, his hair turned white from fear, and he developed a chest condition because of the lack of winter clothes. We were displaced by the sea for an extended period during the winter, and he still suffers from it. He underwent surgery during the war, despite the limited resources of the hospital and the severe siege imposed on it. He had no home to rest in while he was ill. He cried a lot, suffered greatly, and was burdened with responsibility at a young age due to his father's absence, at a time when he should have been in a safe home playing and having fun.
We have been displaced twelve times. Each time, I carried my children and fled under a hail of bullets, terrified, not knowing where to go. I felt helpless and alone, bearing a heavy responsibility in the midst of war without my husband. I asked everyone around me for help, as I had to stay overnight in the hospital many times when my children were sick. They suffered from dehydration and weight loss due to starvation and lack of food. My husband wasn't with me. I would go out to get food, go to the bakery, fill water containers, and search for medicine for my children and myself, as I suffer from chronic arthritis. This medicine was unavailable in Gaza, and obtaining it was extremely difficult and expensive.
The only way I can leave Gaza is to pay for a travel permit to reunite with my family. I will disclose all the details of where this money will go with complete transparency.
This campaign is solely for raising funds to cover the costs of the security permit to leave Gaza for myself and my two young children.
